Isn’t it strange how a few years ago we had never heard of flouride free and sls free toothpastes. Infact, ever since I was a kid, I remember using only one toothpaste. It was a red colored gel toothpaste from a very famous brand. It tasted good and looked nice. I also remember having the most dreaded problem of bleeding gums.
About 5 years ago ‘he’ picked up Meswak toothpaste randomly. Haven’t stopped using it since then.
About Dabur Meswak Toothpaste
Meswak was launched in India by Balsara Hygiene in 1998. In 2005, it was sold to Dabur. The toothpaste is marketed as a herbal toothpaste as it is made from extracts of the Salvadora persica plant.
My Experience with Dabur Meswak Toothpaste
First and foremost, most people do not know that Meswak is a non-fluoridated toothpaste. Yes, I have a habit of reading labels. I do not know why Dabur is not promoting this fact. I have seen people (my friends) spending huge amounts on fluoride free toothpastes.
Meswak is usually available in a combo pack with a free toothrush. The toothbrush is useless though.
I started using Meswak about 5 years ago, when ‘he’ just bought it randomly. I was not very happy about it and had to use it to finish it up. After using for about 2 months, I started noticing changes. My gums didn’t bleed anymore. I didn’t have swollen gums since the week I started using it. The reason? Probably the natural ingredients.
I have never stopped using it since then. Slowly the problem of toothache while sipping on/eating something cold also went away.
It is not sls free though, and lathers well. It tastes just like Fennel, literally. I wish Meswak had teeth whitening properties as well. Also, I wish it looked good sitting on my shelf. Unfortunately, Dabur has not much in that department. I mean why does it have to look so boring.
Overall, I love it and have no plans of changing my toothpaste brand ever.
Pros of Dabur Meswak Toothpaste:
- Non Fluoridated
- Solved my problem of bleeding and swollen gums
- Contains pure extract of the Miswak plant ‘Salvadore Persica’
- Very Inexpensive and easily available
- Has astringent and anti-bacterial properties
The only con for me is that it does not actually look like a decent product.
